Immature Stages of Megachilidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Megachilidae is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that the 1st instar larva is equipped with enormous mandibles, which he regarded as an adaptation for combat during this stage.  Feeding first takes place on the provisions in the cell, but the larva gradually works its way to the surface, where it encounters a Megachile larva, which it destroys, regardless of the stage of development it has attained.
